The overall setting of Dubliners is in Dublin as Joyce wanted to document the change the Dublin was going through. Due to the fact that its focus was on Dublin's change, "Eveline" takes place in Dublin. The two main settings the actual story takes place in is in Eveline's room and the Wharf. The story starts with Eveline sitting in her room reminising her past and from what is gathered from her recolitions is that her house and her surroundings haven't changed since her childhood. TThis reflects Eveline's mind as because her enviroment as not changed her whole life she is unable to except the change that might occur if she went off with frank. Not only has enrioment not changed since she was young, the decorations of her house are also very simple and old with yellowing photographs. Since her room and entire house is decorated in a very simple manner her room can relfect Eveline's simple values or rather being in a simple, plain enviroment Eveline's mind has adjusted itself to accepting a plain life rather than wanting more.
